Dream Lab
The way we re-define the new working space.

(Red Dot Award Winner 2016)

The story begins with the way we re-define the new working space.

In this project, we simulate the functions of a home, to re-define the areas in the working space as the entrance hall, the living room, the sitting room, the open kitchen, and the recreation area (café) in a home, and thus seek to add new imagination in the mean working units.

Site/ Dynamic Correspondence

The site locates in the space of Song Shan Culture Park. The plan of Taipei New Horizon Building has a playful form to respond the context of the park; therefore, the divides indoor also correspond to the cutting lines of the environment.

There are two key lines in the space corresponding the building itself. With the rotation of the lines, the square layout of the original wall is pulled out; with the rhythm of the lines, the two spaces setting as the working space being flanked by the lobby and the café therefore corresponding actively. Walking along with the curvy windows, the users navigate through the lights and shadows in the space, and form a playful scene at background of the urban view.

Glass Box

The conference room takes up a huge area in the working space. However, when it is not occupied, this is often a gigantic structure and thus makes the spaces seem smaller. Therefore, with the walls made with various media, we try to deconstruct the feeling of the gigantic structure of the empty conference room, while seeking versatile possibility of the conference room.

Similar & Conflict

The space can be divided as three major structures. Among different departments, we have installed one to two “brainstorming boxes” in the space. The boundaries of these brainstorming boxes (sitting rooms) start interesting conversations with the boundaries with the working space. The traces of the ceilings and the floors naturally divide the fields. In the view of a complete majority, the divides by the steel nets and steel pieces create a playful in-out relationship, as well as the definition of the layers of different departments.

Divide

For the vision, we pursue a space without any solid walls. But for each program of the space, we desire each space has its clear boundaries without interfering each other.

Therefore, we use materials such as grey glasses and steels to establish many visionary divides, to create the layers of space, and define the invisible walls. As the result, there are delicate distance among the resting area, the working area, and the brainstorming area. Between each space is a lucid space but no function is affected.

Inspirations from Nature & Urban
